— Revelation 22:13

The Bible never directly says, “God exists outside of time.” 

But when you put all of Scripture together, it points strongly to that conclusion. God is presented as the Creator of time, eternal, and not limited by the timeline He created.

The Bible opens with these words:

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)

The “beginning” is the beginning of creation. Later in the creation account, God establishes days, seasons, and years.

“Let there be lights… and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years.” (Genesis 1:14)

Time, as we experience it, is part of creation. If God created time, then He existed before it.

The Bible also repeatedly says God is eternal.

“Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” (Psalm 90:2)

“The eternal God is your refuge.” (Deuteronomy 33:27)

“The high and exalted One who lives forever.” (Isaiah 57:15)

Unlike us, God has no beginning and no end.

God also describes Himself as seeing all of history.

“I am God, and there is no other… I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come.” (Isaiah 46:9–10)

Rather than discovering the future as it unfolds, God already knows the end from the beginning.

The Bible also says God experiences time differently than we do.

“With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” (2 Peter 3:8)

“A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by.” (Psalm 90:4)

These verses don’t give a formula for measuring time. They show that God is not bound by time the way humans are.

Finally, God says:

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” (Revelation 22:13)

So, does God exist outside of time?

The Bible suggests, yes.

It consistently teaches that God existed before time, created time, is eternal, sees the end from the beginning, and is not limited by time the way we are.

The clearest biblical conclusion is that God exists beyond the time He created while remaining fully present and active within it.
