🧠 Devotional
Psalm 37:5 says: “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this.” (NIV)
So what does this verse mean?
It means giving your life and plans to God and trusting Him to guide you. You do not have to have everything figured out because God is in control.
So what’s happening in this verse? Who’s talking to who?
The psalmist of Psalm 37 is David. He wrote this psalm to God’s people to encourage them to remain faithful and trust God during difficult times when life felt uncertain or unfair.
Now look at the verse before and after for context:
Psalm 37:4 — “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (NIV)
Psalm 37:6 — “He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.” (NIV)
Psalm 37:4 tells us to take delight in the Lord, which means loving Him and putting Him first in our lives. This helps us see why Psalm 37:5 says to commit our way to Him. We trust Him with our plans when our hearts are focused on Him.
Psalm 37:6 shows what happens when we do this. God makes our lives right and fair. Together, these verses show the full picture. Love God, trust Him with your life, and He will take care of you.
Throughout Scripture, this principle is repeated in different ways. Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” (NIV) Similarly, Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that God has good plans for those who trust Him. These verses echo Psalm 37:5, showing that trusting God with our lives and plans is a consistent theme across the Bible.
If Psalm 37:5 teaches us anything, it’s that when we trust God and commit our lives to Him, He will turn our faithfulness into blessings that shine.
