📖 Verse Of The Day

— Isaiah 14:12

🧠 Devotional
Did you know the Bible describes Satan’s fall almost like pieces of a story scattered across different books of Scripture?
The Bible never gives one single chapter explaining everything from beginning to end.
Instead, you have to piece the story together.
Before Satan became Satan, he appears to have originally been a powerful angel.
Ezekiel 28 describes someone who was once full of wisdom, beauty, and splendor:
“You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.”
“You were in Eden, the garden of God.”
“You were anointed as a guardian cherub.”
Many Christians believe this passage points beyond an earthly king and also describes Satan before his fall.
Then the passage says:
“You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you.”
And the reason for the fall is then revealed:
“Your heart became proud on account of your beauty.”
Isaiah 14 gives another major piece of the story.
The passage describes someone trying to exalt himself above God:
“I will ascend to the heavens.”
“I will raise my throne above the stars of God.”
“I will make myself like the Most High.”
That is the center of Satan’s rebellion:
pride.
Instead of worshiping God, he wanted God’s position, authority, and glory.
Then Revelation 12 describes a war in heaven:
“Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back.”
“But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven.”
“The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray.”
This is why demons are commonly understood to be fallen angels who followed Satan in rebellion.
And one of the most interesting parts of the story is what happens next in Genesis.
When Satan tempts Adam and Eve in the garden, his temptation sounds very similar to the sin that caused his own fall.
He tells them:
“You will be like God.”
That same pride, self-exaltation, and desire to take God’s place appears again.
So when you piece all the passages together, the Bible’s picture is that Satan was originally created as a powerful angel, but pride corrupted him, he rebelled against God, and he was cast down from heaven along with the angels who followed him.
