🧠 Devotional

In the book of Exodus, God speaks to Moses in a way Moses does not expect. Moses is not in a city or a place of worship. He is in the wilderness, caring for sheep. This shows that God can speak to people during ordinary parts of life.

The Bible tells us that Moses saw something unusual.

Exodus 3:2 (KJV)

“And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.”

The bush was on fire, but it was not burning up. Fire normally destroys what it touches, but this fire did not. God was showing His power in a way Moses could understand. When Moses noticed this, he stopped and turned aside to look. He did not ignore what he saw.

When Moses turned aside, God spoke to him.

Exodus 3:4 (KJV)

“And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses.”

God called Moses by name. This shows that God knew Moses personally and had a purpose for him. God often speaks when people are willing to stop and listen.

God then told Moses to remove his shoes.

Exodus 3:5 (KJV)

“Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.”

The ground was not holy because of the bush itself. It was holy because God was there. This teaches that God is holy and should be treated with respect. Moses needed to understand that he was standing in God’s presence.

God then reminded Moses of who He is.

Exodus 3:6 (KJV)

“I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.”

God was the same God who made promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He had not forgotten His people. Even though Moses had been away from Egypt for many years, God still saw what was happening.

Exodus 3:7 (KJV)

“I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt… for I know their sorrows.”

The burning bush shows us that God is powerful, holy, and caring. The fire shows His power. The holy ground shows His holiness. His concern for Israel shows His care for His people.

God was preparing Moses for a task that would be difficult. Moses could not do it by his own strength. He would need to trust God and obey Him.

This account teaches us that God is present and active. He sees His people, speaks through His Word, and calls them to listen, respect Him, and obey Him.

Main truth: God is holy, He sees His people, and He calls them to trust and obey Him.
