Good morning. Today is Sunday, June 21st!

📖 Verse Of The Day

— Psalm 95:6

🧠 Devotional
Biblically, worship is the response of a person who truly sees God for who He is.
It is much deeper than singing songs or attending church.
In Scripture, worship includes bowing, praying, obeying, trusting, praising, and surrendering yourself to God.
And we know that definition from the actual words the Bible uses for worship.
One of the main Hebrew words in the Old Testament is “shachah,” which literally means to bow down, fall down, or prostrate yourself before someone greater. That is why worship throughout Scripture is constantly connected to kneeling, bowing, and lowering yourself before God.
Psalm 95:6 says:
“O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.”
In the ancient world, people bowed before kings because they recognized their authority and greatness. Biblical worship carries that same idea. It is recognizing God’s greatness, holiness, authority, and worth, then responding accordingly.
The English word “worship” also comes from the old idea of “worth-ship,” meaning to give someone the honor and value they are worthy of. That is why worship in the Bible always flows from recognizing who God is.
God reveals His power, holiness, mercy, or glory, and people respond.
They bow.
They praise.
They repent.
They obey.
But worship is not merely outward actions. Isaiah 29:13 says people can honor God with their lips while their hearts are far from Him. That is why Jesus says true worshippers worship “in spirit and in truth.” Worship must come from the heart, not just external religion or performance.
One of the deepest details is that the first direct mention of worship in the Bible is in Genesis 22 when Abraham is willing to offer Isaac. The first picture of worship is connected to surrender and sacrifice.
That theme continues throughout Scripture.
Worship is not just music. It is surrender flowing from recognizing the worth of God.
And according to the Bible, humans were created for it.
Revelation 4:11 says:
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things…”
So at its core, worship is the human heart responding rightly to the worthiness of God.
