Good morning. It’s Saturday, February 21st, aka National Red Sock Day.
🥳 Congratulations on starting today with God, and thank you for letting us be a part of it.

📖 Verse Of The Day

— Genesis 5:24

🧠 Devotional
Yesterday we talked about Elijah and how he never experienced death.
Well, there’s one other person in the Bible who didn’t experience death.
And that was Enoch.
We know this because Genesis 5 follows a pattern. It lists each man, tells how long he lived, and ends the same way.
Adam … “and then he died.”
Seth … “and then he died.”
Jared … “and then he died.”
Over and over.
Then it gets to Enoch.
Genesis 5:24 says, “Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.”
It doesn’t say “and then he died” like it does with everyone else.
So who was Enoch?
The Bible really doesn’t give us stories about Enoch the way it does with Abraham, Moses, David, or Elijah.
Here’s what we actually get:
• A short genealogy in Genesis 5. He lived 365 years, was the son of Jared, and the father of Methuselah, who would later become the longest living person recorded in Scripture. Enoch lived in the generations leading up to the flood.
• One repeated phrase: “Enoch walked faithfully with God.” It appears in Genesis 5:22 and 5:24. That is the defining description of his life. Not achievements. Not titles. His relationship with God.
• A note that “God took him.” Genesis does not record his death. Instead of “and then he died,” it simply says God took him away, marking him as different from everyone else in the chapter.
• A brief prophecy in Jude 14–15. Jude tells us Enoch “prophesied,” saying, “See, the Lord is coming…” That means he spoke about judgment in a generation that was becoming increasingly corrupt before the flood.
But unlike with Elijah, the Bible actually explains why God took Enoch.
Hebrews 11:5 (NIV) says, “By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death… For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.”
So in short, Enoch was someone who walked faithfully with God.
