🧠 Devotional

Zechariah 4:10 NIV says, “Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel?”

There’s a lot going on in this verse, so let’s slow down and break it down clearly.

At this point, the temple in Jerusalem was being rebuilt after it had been destroyed. Zerubbabel was leading the project, but the new temple looked smaller than the old one, and some people were discouraged.

“Who dares despise the day of small things”

Don’t look down on something just because it’s small or just getting started.

“The seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth”

God sees everything clearly. What seems small to you is not small to Him.

“Will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel”

The capstone is the final stone of a building. It represents completion. God sees where it’s headed, not just how it looks right now.

Now look at the verse before it.

Zechariah 4:9 NIV says, “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it.” The project was already promised to be finished. It was not failing. It was in progress.

Now look at the verse after it.

Zechariah 4:11 NIV says, “Then I asked the angel, ‘What are these two olive trees on the right and the left of the lampstand?’” The vision continues, showing that God is the one supplying and sustaining the work.

The biggest fish in the ocean was once a tiny fry.

The tallest tree in the world was once a seed in the dirt.

The biggest companies in the world were once just ideas.

Even you started small.

So remember this: everything great begins small, including what God is building in you.

🙏 Prayer (Guided by A.C.T.S.)

Adoration: God, You see the end from the beginning.

Confession: I judge too quickly and overlook small starts.

Thanksgiving: Thank You for finishing what You begin.

Supplication: Help me trust You in the small stages.

In Jesus name, Amen
