🧠 Devotional
Have you ever heard of the saying, “the grass is always greener on the other side”?
Perhaps you’ve heard the inverse, “the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.”
But the truth is, it was never about the other side at all.
So what do each of these quotes actually mean?
“The grass is always greener on the other side” means we think something else would be better than what we have right now, based on how it looks.
“The grass isn’t always greener on the other side” means things that look better aren’t always actually better, our perspective can be misleading.
“The grass is greener where you water it” means what you have can become better if you take care of it and put effort into it.
And that last idea is exactly how the Bible talks about growth.
It teaches that what you put into something is what you get out of it:
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Galatians 6:7 (KJV)
If nothing is put in, nothing grows.
Jesus says the same thing in a story about planting:
“A sower went out to sow his seed…” Mark 4:3 (KJV)
The same seed falls on different types of ground. Some doesn’t grow. Some dies. Some gets choked out. But some grows and produces fruit.
“And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit…” Mark 4:20 (KJV)
The seed didn’t change, the difference was the ground, which means it’s not about finding better ground somewhere else, it’s about what happens to the ground you already have.
So instead of looking somewhere else, focus on what’s in front of you and take care of it.
So know this: the grass isn’t greener somewhere else, it becomes greener where you choose to water it.

🙏 Prayer (Guided by A.C.T.S.)
When you’re not sure how to pray, A.C.T.S. gives you a simple path to follow: Adore, Confess, Thank, and Ask.
Adoration: God, You are good.
Confession: I compare instead of focusing.
Thanksgiving: Thank You for what I have.
Supplication: Help me grow what’s in front of me.
In Jesus name, Amen

❓Trivia Question of the Day
What parable did Jesus tell to explain how the same seed can grow differently depending on the ground?
