🧠 Devotional

There’s a verse, Revelation 3:20 (NIV), and it says this:

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”

Jesus is saying that He is reaching out to you, and you have the choice to respond. If you choose to let Him in, He won’t just show up for a moment, He will be part of your life and have a real relationship with you.

This is an extended metaphor.

That just means He’s using a simple picture to explain something deeper. The door is your life, the knocking is Him reaching out, and opening it is your choice to let Him in.

What’s important here is that we’re not the ones trying to reach Him first. He’s the one reaching out to us. He’s the one knocking. He initiates, and we respond.

You actually see this same idea in other places in the Bible.

In Luke 19:10 (NIV), it says, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” That shows Jesus is the one doing the seeking. He’s the one going after people, not waiting for them to find Him.

And in John 10:27–28 (NIV), it says, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life…” That lines up with this verse too. He calls, we hear, and then we choose to follow.

So the pattern is the same. He reaches out first, and we respond.

And sometimes it doesn’t feel like He’s knocking at all. Sometimes it feels quiet, distant, or like He’s not there.

But that doesn’t mean He isn’t.

Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV) says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

That fits with this too. He is already there, already reaching out, and when you turn toward Him and seek Him, you begin to recognize that and respond to it.

He knocks, and we respond.

🙏 Prayer (Guided by A.C.T.S.)

When you’re not sure how to pray, A.C.T.S. gives you a simple path to follow: Adore, Confess, Thank, and Ask.

Adoration: God, thank You for reaching out to me first.

Confession: I admit I don’t always open the door.

Thanksgiving: Thank You for Your patience with me.

Supplication: Help me hear You and open my life to You.

In Jesus name, Amen
