🧠 Devotional

There’s a quote that goes like this:

“The only sin Jesus ever had was ours, and the only righteousness we will ever have is in Jesus.”

What this means is this. Jesus didn’t have sin of His own, but He took on ours, and in exchange, we don’t have righteousness of our own, we receive it through Him.

And although this isn’t a specific verse in the Bible, there are many verses that back it up.

In 2 Corinthians 5:21, it says, “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” This doesn’t mean Jesus became sinful, but that He was treated as sin and took the full weight and penalty of it so we could be treated as righteous.

In 1 Peter 2:24, it says, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross,” showing that Jesus didn’t just die, He carried our sin.

In Romans 3:22, it says, “This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe,” showing that righteousness isn’t something you earn, it’s something given to you.

In Philippians 3:9, it says, “not having a righteousness of my own… but that which is through faith in Christ,” showing that our righteousness comes from Him, not ourselves.

This is more than just forgiveness, it’s substitution. Jesus takes your place so you can stand in His.

And it’s a full exchange. Your sin is placed on Him, and His righteousness is placed on you.

God didn’t overlook sin, He dealt with it fully, just not on you.

Because of that, you’re no longer defined by your sin, but by the righteousness of Christ.

So the point of today’s newsletter is this: Jesus took what was yours so completely that you can receive what is His just as completely.
