Good morning. It’s Saturday, May 9th, aka National Lost Sock Memorial Day 🤣.

🥳 Congratulations on starting today with God, and thank you for letting us be a part of it.

📖 Verse Of The Day

— 2 Chronicles 15:4

🧠 Devotional

George Janko says that “every person knows God at their lowest.”

But why is this? Why do people seem to find God whenever they’re at their lowest?

And I’m not saying that everyone who finds God only finds Him because they hit their lowest.

What the quote is really getting at is this:

Anyone who truly hits their absolute lowest, their real rock bottom, ends up knowing God.

When life is good, people lean on: Money, relationships, titles, status, control, and the list goes on…

But when all of those things disappear, what’s left?

Nothing is left to lean on except God.

And the Bible actually describes this:

“In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help.”
— Psalms 18:6

That’s what happens. When everything else fails, people call out.

And that’s exactly where verses like this hit:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”
— Proverbs 3:5

Because at your lowest, you literally can’t lean on your own understanding anymore. It failed you.

So you’re almost forced into a different direction, into trusting something bigger than yourself.

And when those things fail, people naturally look for something bigger.

The Bible says:

“He has set eternity in the human heart…”
— Ecclesiastes 3:11

And if you zoom out, this isn’t just something we see today. It’s a pattern all throughout the Bible.

People drift when life is good, and then come back to God when things fall apart.

“In their distress they turned to the Lord, the God of Israel, and sought him, and he was found by them.”
— 2 Chronicles 15:4

This quote being true isn’t proof in a scientific sense that God is real, that the Christian faith is real, or that Jesus did die on the cross…

but it is very interesting and compelling evidence.
