🧠 Devotional

Are you honest with God?

I’m not asking if you lie to God… I’m asking if you’re 100% completely honest with God.

Because there’s a difference.

Not lying just means you’re not saying something false. But honesty is being completely transparent… Even with sin.

Here is a place in the Bible where it tells us to be real and truthful with God.

In Psalms it says:

Psalm 51:6 (KJV)

“Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.”

This is David speaking after one of the lowest points of his life. He had sinned, tried to hide it, and was confronted. In that moment, he realizes God isn’t looking for a cleaned up version of you. He wants what’s actually going on inside.

And here is an example of someone actually doing that.

In Psalms it says:

Psalm 13:1 (KJV)

“How long wilt thou forget me, O Lord? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?”

This is David in a different moment. He feels forgotten and says it exactly how he feels, without filtering it.

And here’s why this matters.

In Book of Hebrews it says:

Hebrews 4:13 (KJV)

“Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.”

God already sees everything. Nothing is hidden from Him. So the difference between not lying and being completely honest looks like this:

Not lying is holding things back and keeping it surface level.

Complete honesty is saying what’s actually going on, even when it doesn’t sound good.

And if we’re being real, it feels good to be completely unfiltered and honest. A lot of times, that feels like something we only have with ourselves. But the Bible shows we can have that with God too.

So when you talk to God, are you just not lying… Or are you actually being 100% completely honest with Him?
