📖 Verse Of The Day

🧠 Devotional
The Bible takes remembering seriously.
Not nostalgia. Not regret. Remembering with purpose.
As the year ends, reflection comes naturally. Moments replay. Decisions resurface. Some memories feel warm. Others still sting. Scripture invites us into this moment, but it also gives guardrails. We are told to remember in a way that produces wisdom, not shame. “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12).
Biblically, remembering is never about staying stuck.
God repeatedly commanded Israel to remember the wilderness. Not because it was pleasant, but because it revealed who sustained them. Deuteronomy says God led them through the wilderness to humble them and test them, to show what was in their hearts and to teach them that life depends on Him (Deuteronomy 8:2–3). The point was not the hardship. The point was God’s faithfulness in it.
That is the lesson of New Year’s Eve.
This is not the night to grade yourself. God is not asking you to justify outcomes or explain why things did not turn out differently. He is inviting you to remember honestly and humbly.
Paul understood this tension well. He said he forgot what lay behind and pressed forward, not by erasing memory, but by refusing to let the past define his identity or direction (Philippians 3:13). What shaped him moved forward. What weighed him down did not.
Scripture is clear about what should not be carried forward. Shame has no authority over those in Christ. “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). Conviction may lead to growth, but condemnation does not come from God.
At the same time, wisdom is meant to be carried forward. Gratitude is meant to be carried forward. A deeper awareness of your dependence on God is meant to be carried forward.
The steadfast love of the Lord does not end with the calendar. His mercies are not seasonal. They are new again tomorrow (Lamentations 3:22–23).
So tonight, remember rightly. Acknowledge where God carried you. Admit where you resisted Him. Thank Him for what He taught you.
Then place the year where it belongs.
Not on your shoulders.
In God’s hands.

Adoration: God, You faithful and unchanging.

In Jesus name, Amen
