📖 Verse Of The Day

🧠 Devotion

“But in Mount Zion there shall be those who escape, and it shall be holy, and the house of Jacob shall possess their own possessions.”

Obadiah is the least read book in the Bible. Bible scholars mention this often. It is also one of the shortest books in the entire Bible. It is only one chapter long, and many believers skip right past it. It sits quietly between Amos and Jonah, and because it is small, people assume it is not important. Yet God placed it in Scripture for a reason. This short book carries a strong message about His justice and His ability to restore what seems lost.

Obadiah speaks into a painful moment in Israel’s history. Judah had been attacked and weakened. While they suffered, their relatives in Edom refused to help. Some even took advantage of them during their hardest days. God saw every moment. He saw their pain. He saw the injustice. He saw how they were mistreated. Obadiah delivers God’s promise that He will defend His people and bring them back to a place of strength.

Near the end of the book, God speaks the verse above. He promises that people will escape. He promises that holiness will return. He promises that His people will stand again and receive what He planned for them. It is a promise of restoration. It shows the heart of God for anyone who feels defeated or forgotten.

There is a true story from the life of missionary John Paton that helps paint this picture. Paton served on a remote island in the South Pacific in the late 1800s. Almost everything in his life fell apart. His wife died. His infant son died. Many people resisted his message. He often felt alone and surrounded by danger. One night a group of hostile tribes came to kill him. He prayed and waited. They never attacked. The next year the chief of the tribe became a believer. Paton asked him why they stopped that night. The chief said they saw large shining men standing around his home. Paton saw no one, but God protected him.

This story shows what Obadiah teaches. God does not forget His people. He does not leave them in darkness. He protects them even when they cannot see His hand. He restores what was taken. He rebuilds what was broken.

Maybe you feel like Judah did. Maybe you walked through something unfair. Maybe someone took advantage of your weakness. Maybe you feel like you lost ground. God sees every part of your story. Nothing is hidden from Him. He knows how to lift you up again.

Obadiah is a small book with a big message. God restores. God remembers. God protects. Even the smallest book still carries His voice. Let this short book remind you that you are never forgotten.

🙏 Prayer (Guided by ACTS)

When you’re not sure how to pray, A.C.T.S. gives you a simple path to follow: Adore, Confess, Thank, and Ask.

Adoration: Father, You are faithful, just, and always near. You protect and keep every promise.

Confession: Lord, I confess the times I doubt Your plan or forget that You are with me. Forgive my fear and my impatience.

Thanksgiving: Thank you for seeing my struggles, restoring what is broken, and staying close even when I do not notice.

Supplication: Strengthen me today. Restore what I have lost, bring peace to my heart, and help me trust You fully.

In Jesus name, Amen
