📖 Verse Of The Day

🧠 Devotion
When most people hear the name “John” in the Bible, they think of John the Baptist. But the John who wrote a huge portion of the New Testament is John the Apostle. And once you understand who he was, his writings make even more sense.
John the Apostle began as an ordinary fisherman. He worked with his brother James and his father Zebedee on the Sea of Galilee. Jesus walked by their boat one day and called them to follow Him. Mark chapter one verse nineteen says they left everything immediately. That one decision turned a simple fisherman into one of the most important eyewitnesses of Jesus’ life.
John was not just one of the twelve. He was part of Jesus’ inner circle. Jesus often brought Peter, James, and John to moments the other disciples did not see. They watched the Transfiguration in Matthew chapter seventeen. They saw the raising of Jairus’s daughter in Mark chapter five. They sat closest to Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. John saw the miracles, the private moments, and the tenderness of Jesus up close.
John is also called “the disciple whom Jesus loved.” This shows up several times in the Gospel of John. It does not mean Jesus loved John more than the others. It means John understood that his deepest identity was being loved by Jesus. He never refers to himself by name. He refers to himself by relationship. That is the heartbeat of all his writing.
He was also faithful when others ran. During the crucifixion, John stood near the cross with Mary, the mother of Jesus. John chapter nineteen shows Jesus looking down and entrusting Mary to John’s care. That tells you everything about the kind of man he was. Loyal. Steady. Present.
After the resurrection, John became a major leader in the early church. He preached the Gospel, defended the truth, and encouraged believers. He lived longer than the other apostles and carried the message into the next generation.
John wrote five books of the Bible.
• The Gospel of John, which focuses on who Jesus is
• 1 John, which teaches believers how to live in the light and love others
• 2 John and 3 John, two short letters about truth and faithfulness
• Revelation, the final book of the Bible, written while he was exiled on Patmos for preaching Christ
John wrote with simple language but deep meaning. He repeats themes like light, truth, love, and belief. He wants readers to know Jesus clearly and personally. He wants them to understand that real faith changes how you live and how you love.
What makes John stand out is not just what he wrote, but who he became. A man shaped by love. A man transformed by closeness to Jesus. A man who never tried to make himself the hero of the story. He keeps pointing back to Jesus again and again.
John’s story is a reminder: The most important thing about you is not what you do for Jesus but that you are loved by Him.
