🧠 Devotional

Many people think they know the Bible because they recognize the big stories. David and Goliath. Noah’s ark. Jonah and the fish. These stories are familiar, easy to summarize, and often repeated. But Scripture is full of moments that are quieter, slower, and easier to miss.

The Bible is not just a collection of famous stories. It is a living record of how God works through ordinary people, unexpected moments, and quiet obedience.

After His resurrection, Jesus met two disciples walking on the road to Emmaus. They were discouraged and confused, even though everything they hoped for had already happened.

Luke 24:15–16 (NIV) says,

“Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him.”

They were walking with Jesus and did not even realize it.

As they walked, Jesus explained Scripture to them, story by story, showing how everything pointed to Him.

Luke 24:27 (NIV) says,

“Beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.”

These men knew the stories. What they had missed was the meaning.

The same thing happens today. People may have heard a Bible story before, but hearing is not the same as understanding. Familiarity can make us stop paying attention. We assume we already know what God is saying.

Jesus addressed this directly.

Matthew 13:14–15 (NIV) says,

“You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.”

Scripture requires more than exposure. It requires humility and openness.

That is why the Bible often reveals truth slowly. God does not rush understanding. He invites people to keep reading, keep listening, and keep asking.

Psalm 119:18 (NIV) says,

“Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.”

The prayer is not for new information. It is for new sight.

Some of the most powerful Bible stories are not dramatic at first glance. A widow giving two small coins. A servant girl speaking up. Friends lowering a man through a roof. These moments matter because they show how God works through faith, obedience, and trust.

So the question is not just whether you have heard the story before.

The question is whether you are still listening.

Because God is still speaking through His Word.

🙏 Prayer (Guided by A.C.T.S.)

When you’re not sure how to pray, A.C.T.S. gives you a simple path to follow: Adore, Confess, Thank, and Ask.

Adoration: God, You reveal truth through Scripture and speak familiar stories.

Confession: I confess at times I skim Your Word instead of listening with heart.

Thanksgiving: Thank You for Scripture that reveals Jesus again and again.

Supplication: Open my eyes to hear familiar stories with fresh faith.

In Jesus name, Amen
