🧠 Devotional
Interestingly, the Bible never actually uses the words “consistency” or “consistent.”
But the idea appears often throughout Scripture. Instead of those words, the Bible uses phrases like “remain,” “continue,” “devote yourselves,” and “do not give up.” These phrases describe steady faith over time.
For example, the apostle Paul writes in Galatians:
Galatians 6:9 (NIV)
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Notice the wording. Paul says “do not become weary” and “do not give up.” The encouragement is to keep doing what is right even when the results are not immediate. The verse also says the harvest comes “at the proper time.”
Another passage explains a similar idea.
Hebrews 12:11 (NIV)
“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”
This verse acknowledges something many people experience. Discipline can feel difficult in the moment, but it produces something later.
We also see steady commitment in the early church.
Acts 2:42 (NIV)
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”
The verse says they “devoted themselves.” That language describes ongoing commitment over time.
Jesus used a similar idea when describing a believer’s relationship with Him.
John 15:5 (NIV)
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit.”
Even though the Bible never uses the words consistency or consistent, it encourages believers to not give up, remain in Christ, and continue doing good, showing that steady faith over time produces fruit and a harvest.
