Good morning. It’s Tuesday, April 7th.

🥳 Congratulations on starting today with God, and thank you for letting us be a part of it.

📖 Verse Of The Day

— Joshua 3:5

🧠 Devotional

Today we’re looking at the moment God stopped the Jordan River so Israel could cross into the Promised Land, and more importantly, when He chose to do it.

God tells them He is about to move.

Joshua 3:5 (NIV)

“Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.”

Then He explains exactly what will happen.

Joshua 3:13 (NIV)

“As soon as the priests… set foot in the Jordan, its waters… will be cut off and stand up in a heap.”

So they already know the outcome. The water is going to stop.

But when they actually get there, nothing has changed. The river is still overflowing and impossible to cross.

Joshua 3:15 (NIV)

“Now the Jordan is at flood stage…”

So they’re standing in front of something that still looks like a problem, even after God has spoken.

Then they step in anyway. Not when it looks safe, not when it makes sense, but while the water is still flowing.

And only after they step in does anything change.

Joshua 3:16 (NIV)

“The water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap…”

The river doesn’t slowly go down. It completely stops.

The priests stand in the middle, and it’s not muddy. It’s dry, and everyone crosses.

Joshua 3:17 (NIV)

“The priests… stood firm on dry ground… while all Israel passed by…”

And Scripture makes it clear this wasn’t random.

Joshua 4:23 (NIV)

“For the Lord your God dried up the Jordan before you…”

God did it.

But the key part of the story is this: the water didn’t stop before they moved. It stopped after they stepped in.

So know this: God doesn’t always remove what’s in front of you first. Sometimes He tells you what He’s going to do and waits for you to trust Him enough to step forward, and then He moves.
